Essential crag checks
Access, closures, permits & safety
From Melbourne, follow the M1 and M420/A440 to Meeniyan, then Promontory Road (C444) to the park entrance. Tidal River is 30 km farther south, and there is no fuel there; the nearest fuel is at Yanakie.
Summer vehicle numbers are limited and popular sites can fill. Arrive before 10:00 am, carpool where possible and be prepared to wait; use established visitor car parks rather than road edges.
The entire park is scheduled to close from 5:00 pm Sunday 9 August until 8:00 am Friday 14 August 2026 for management and conservation work. Stockyard Campground and its toilet block are closed until further notice.
Tongue Point, Mount Oberon and Little Oberon are remote coastal granite areas. Check weather, water and current park conditions, carry food and water, and assess climbing risk before leaving established tracks.
Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.
