Essential crag checks
Access, closures, permits & safety
Use established park tracks to reach the official climbing areas at The Boulders, Sugarloaf Saddle and North Jawbone. Download the official visitor guide and allow extra time for the steep, rocky and sometimes poorly marked terrain.
Use the designated day-visitor parking at Sugarloaf Saddle for the Sugarloaf sectors or Jawbone Day Visitor Area for the Jawbone side. Do not create informal roadside parking or block park access roads.
Do not climb the range on Total Fire Ban days and follow all current park closure notices. Stay on defined marked tracks and avoid cutting corners through vegetation or unstable terrain.
The range has steep rock faces, rock steps and uneven or slippery surfaces, and weather can change quickly. Carry water, weatherproof clothing, navigation tools, a torch and first aid; phone coverage is unreliable, so consider a radio or personal locator beacon.
Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.
