Access, closures, permits & safety
From Launceston, take the C401 through White Hills, turn at Blessington and continue on Ben Lomond Road. The park boundary is 8 km from the turn-off and the alpine village is another 18 km via the steep, winding and partly unsealed Jacobs Ladder road.
Use the lower car park when alpine road conditions prevent continuing safely. During the ski season, a private shuttle may operate from the Ben Lomond lower car park; confirm that service before relying on it.
The road may close without notice at the barrier 4.5 km below the alpine village in snowy or icy conditions. All vehicles must carry correctly fitted snow chains from June through September, and walking on Jacobs Ladder road is prohibited.
Ben Lomond is an alpine environment where snow, rain, wind and sun can occur at any time. Carry waterproof outer layers, sturdy footwear and warm clothing, check road and weather conditions, and stay on formed tracks when approaching climbing areas.
