Access, closures, permits & safety
From Bear Gulch Day Use Area, follow signed park trails toward the east-side formations and consult the linked climbing guide for the final spur to The Love Handles.
Park only in marked spaces at Bear Gulch Day Use Area or another designated east-side lot. NPS notes that lots can fill; the east and west entrances have no connecting road.
NPS reports that all 2026 climbing and raptor advisory areas reopened July 6. Check current advisories and onsite signs before visiting; east-side trails have day-use access, with no overnight parking outside the campground.
NPS warns of loose rock and long runouts at Pinnacles. Wear a helmet, assess anchors and rock quality, and climb with a partner.
