Essential crag checks

Access, closures, permits & safety

Access

From Booroomba Rocks carpark, the public track climbs toward the top of the rocks. CCA allows about 30 minutes uphill to top camp, followed by more walking to the crag bases. The signed lookout walk is 2.5 km return; climbing access takes additional planning.

Parking

Booroomba Rocks carpark is the start for the 2.5 km return lookout walk. An alternative walk from Honeysuckle Campground to the carpark adds 9 km return.

Closures

ACT Parks lists the Booroomba track open. CCA’s 27 September 2026 update reports Booroomba Rocks Road reopened on 25 September after delayed maintenance. Check ACT Parks alerts for new closures before travel.

Permits & access rules

Safety

The Grade 4 walking track has steep sections and dangerous cliff edges in remote terrain. Bring drinking water and expect unreliable phone reception. Traditional climbing requires appropriate equipment and independent climbing skills.

Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.

About this crag

Canberra Climbers’ Association describes an uphill walk to top camp followed by further access to the cliff bases. It suits independent climbers with their own trad equipment; the public lookout walk is not a substitute for a climbing approach or descent plan.

Recommended equipment

Bring equipment appropriate to the climbing style and local conditions. A helmet is strongly recommended.
