Essential crag checks

Access, closures, permits & safety

Access

From Highway 33 south of Howe, turn into Eightmile Canyon and keep right. The final road to the upper Fins becomes steep and loose; choose a lower approach if the vehicle or conditions are unsuitable.

Parking

The two lower parking areas serve approaches below the difficult upper road. Keep these limited spaces for parking rather than camping; do not continue past the last turnaround in a vehicle unable to handle the climb.

Permits & access rules

Safety

The upper road has a history of rollover accidents and requires serious four-wheel-drive capability. Bring all water and pack out human waste in suitable bags; sharp limestone can also be hard on skin.

Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.

About this crag

Recommended equipment

Bring equipment appropriate to the climbing style and local conditions. A helmet is strongly recommended.
