Essential crag checks

Access, closures, permits & safety

Access

Enter Muir Valley through the designated main parking-lot entrance and use the North Trail. At the valley floor, follow the signed trail system toward Animal Crackers and The Boneyard; stay on established trails and follow current on-site signs.

Parking

Park only in designated Muir Valley spaces. There is no admission fee, but each parked vehicle needs a daily parking permit; the official Muir Valley site lists the current daily rate as $15. Walk-ins and drop-offs are welcome, and vehicles without a pass may be towed.

Closures

No fixed seasonal closure for The Boneyard is stated on the official Muir Valley visitor pages. Access rules and temporary conditions can change, so check the official site and posted notices immediately before climbing.

Permits & access rules

Every climber must complete the official Muir Valley waiver before entering to climb. Dogs, camping, campfires, free soloing, rope jumping and motorized vehicle use beyond designated roads and parking are prohibited; minors require the applicable guardian waiver.

Safety

Muir Valley warns of loose and friable sandstone, falling rock and possible fixed-hardware failure. Climbers are responsible for appropriate experience, equipment and supervision. Do not climb above anchors or top out, and report unusual hazards to Muir Valley staff.

Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.

There is no practical scheduled public transit to the Muir Valley trailhead. Arrange a vehicle or legal drop-off and do not park on neighboring private drives.

Recommended equipment

Bring a helmet, rope and draws appropriate for the selected route, personal anchor and lowering equipment as required, a current guide or offline map, and footwear for the approach. Confirm route length and anchor configuration before climbing.
