Essential crag checks
Access, closures, permits & safety
Confirm whether the chosen area is inside the Scenic Drive and plan around gate hours. Long routes can require early starts and a free late-exit permit. Desert approaches can involve rough trails, scrambling and complex descent navigation.
Use designated Scenic Drive pullouts and parking lots. When a lot is full, the Bureau of Land Management directs visitors to continue to another lot rather than create an off-road space on fragile desert vegetation.
access_notice_requires_review
Check BLM alerts, Scenic Drive reservation requirements, gate hours, flash-flood forecasts and fire restrictions. Sandstone is fragile when wet; avoid climbing until the rock has dried. Carry enough water and allow substantial time for descent.
Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.

About this crag
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is internationally known for sandstone sport climbing and long traditional routes. Many approaches begin inside the 13-mile Scenic Drive, while other climbing areas use access points outside the loop.
Public transport
Public transit does not provide practical access to most climbing trailheads. A vehicle, rideshare to an appropriate legal drop-off, or guide transport is normally required.
Recommended equipment
Bring a helmet, desert navigation, sun protection, water, approach footwear and a route-appropriate sport or traditional rack. Long routes may require headlamps and a late-exit plan.
