Essential crag checks

Access, closures, permits & safety

Access

From US 34 at Drake take Devil's Gulch Road and then Storm Mountain Road. Beyond the dirt-road switchbacks, follow the established path down into the gulch and back up to the crag, roughly ten minutes on foot.

Parking

The specialist guide identifies the pullout on the north side of Storm Mountain Road opposite the crag. Keep the road clear and use the established gulch approach rather than crossing unrelated private land.

Permits & access rules

Safety

Flaring cracks can make reliable protection difficult. Rappels from above the first pitch can be about 150 feet, so check the intended descent and bring an appropriate rope system rather than assuming one short rope is enough.

Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.

About this crag

Protection can be awkward in the flaring cracks, and upper-pitch descents require a longer rappel plan than a short roadside visit might suggest.

Recommended equipment

Bring equipment appropriate to the climbing style and local conditions. A helmet is strongly recommended.
