Access, closures, permits & safety
From Canberra, take the Goulburn turn-off from the Hume Highway, continue through Goulburn and follow signs to Bungonia State Conservation Area for about 25 minutes. From Sydney, leave the Hume Highway at South Marulan and follow the Bungonia signs for about 20 minutes.
Use the established parking areas at Adams lookout, Bungonia campground, De Kerrilleau picnic area or The Lookdown lookout. Park entry is $8 per vehicle per day and can be paid at the ticket machines at the park office.
The park is generally always open but can close because of high fire danger or park operations. An aerial 1080 baiting program is scheduled from 3 to 7 August 2026; obey warning signs and check the official local-alerts page before entering.
Bungonia Gorge can experience higher-than-normal water after continuing rain. Assess water levels before entering the Slot Canyon, turn back if uncertain and never enter flood water. Mobile reception is limited; carry suitable emergency communication and dial 000 in an emergency.
Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.
