Essential crag checks

Access, closures, permits & safety

Access

Follow the Measles Walls climber path from the Crane Mountain trailhead, then descend to the lower section. Use the named-sector guide to locate Below the Measles Wall; avoid unofficial shortcuts and check signs at the final approach.

Parking

Use the DEC Crane Mountain trailhead parking reached from Ski Hi Road; the road and lot can be rough or capacity-limited.

Permits & access rules

DEC reported all Adirondack climbing routes open as of August 1, 2026, after seasonal peregrine closures. Check the current DEC route-closure page and signs before climbing. Confirm current notices at the site before climbing.

Safety

Crane Mountain approaches are steep and can be brushy. The Measles walls have short traditional and top-rope routes; inspect protection and anchors.

Closures and permit rules can change without notice. Recheck the official land manager before departure.
